Soulseekers - Solo Exhibition at Antler Gallery (PDX)

Announcing my upcoming solo exhibition “Soulseekers” with Antler Gallery. Opening October 30th, Thursday. This will be my second solo exhibition with Antler and will be exhibiting 7 new drawings. In this new body of work, ​depicting flora and fauna as metaphors​, I​ heavily focused on the concept of death, afterlife and present life​. ​It is self-evident that the li​fe is often lived under the shadow of death​. These drawings are reflections of my own losses, and interactions I experienced from others losses.

Happy 20th Anniversary Thinkspace!!!! Very excited to be part of this group exhibition, showcasing the newest drawing which is one of the larger piece I’ve drawn. Sadly, I won’t be at the opening but sending positive energy from East Coast! Here are the opening and exhibition details :

Look Toward the Future, but Not So Far as to Miss Today - solo exhibition at Thinkspace (Los angeles, Ca)

The solo exhibition ‘“Look Toward the Future, but Not So Far as to Miss Today‘ is currently exhibited at Thinkspace in Los Angeles, California. On view until March 27th. Please stop by if you are in LA.

“Thinkspace Projects is pleased to present this new solo exhibition from artist Fumi Nakamura. ‘Look Towards the Future, But Not So Far As To Miss Today’ is a new body of work depicting flora and fauna. Each element is carefully selected to represent elements of life, memory, body and soul. Nakamura pulls from the subconscious, using metaphor and imagery to create striking pieces.

Fumi Nakamura draws inspiration from the Japanese phrase meaning “language of flower.” In line with this concept, each flower has different meanings right down to the positioning. Colors play a huge role as well, and each work becomes full of phrases and meanings. One tulip can mean a variety of things from “compassion” to “confession of love” to the “lost love” of a white tulip.

Different from her previous work in which she frequently incorporated negative space, this new series is filled up to the edges. Using custom “coffin” or “container” imagery, Nakamura takes inspiration from the funeral ceremony where we last see and connect with another being physically and reflect on the past together. This collection of works is layered and complex both in visuals and meaning.“

THE SILENT AVIARY

I will be participating The Silent Aviary show at the VACVVM in Minneapolis, MN. The Silent Aviary will be centered around original artwork featuring native native birds by Teagan White and Vanessa Foley, plus a ton of work by our extended family. It's a one-night exhibition and opening this week, September 24th and ONE NIGHT ONLY
